History of the Major Mastiff breed
His homeland is the Mediterranean island of Mallorca (Spanish: Mallorca), the largest in the Balearic archipelago. The breed was bred by crossing an Iberian Mastiff with an English fighting dog introduced to the islands in the 13th century. The goal is protection and brutal combat, inevitable in that era. The result met expectations – Ca-de-Bo is fully endowed with protective and warlike qualities. Further selection was made in a merciless natural way:
- Only a bitch was engaged in raising offspring;
- During childbirth, no one intervened in the process, that is, the “problem” mother died with her offspring;
- The slightest aggression towards the owner had one outcome – the destruction of the individual;
- The complete absence of vaccinations led to natural selection – the strongest survived, transferring this power to their offspring;
Tough methods made the breed almost perfect: strong, courageous, intelligent and tolerant. That is why the dog became a full participant in bullfighting later, in the 18th century. Then he was given the name Ca-de-Bo, that is, “bull dog”. However, the “hardening” had a significant disadvantage – the breed could cease to exist. Fortunately, this did not happen.
Later, history made a “turn” again – bullfighting was banned in the country, and fighting dogs were no longer needed. Only a few survived.
In 1923, the Major Mastiff is mentioned in the Spanish studbook, the official record will be made later – in 1929, after performing at an exhibition in Barcelona. But these were single representatives, that is, the revival of the breed was required. But few people were interested in her, interest arose sporadically only among enthusiasts. Nevertheless, by the end of the 20th century, the world received a titled dog, recognized in 1997 by the IFS. True, it was registered with a new name – Perrault Dogo Mallorquin.
Characteristics and description of the ca-de-bou
The first impression is often misleading to the observer: the dog seems incredibly massive. This effect is created by his robust, muscular physique. In fact, the size of the Ca-de-Bo is medium, you cannot call this dog large. But this fact does not prevent him from being really strong.
And also Ca-de-Bo is a true mastiff! Each facet of this dog is clearly delineated: a head with a developed jaw, a long tail, neat ears laid in the form of a “rose”, a thick long tail without kinks, hard short hair. Sex differences are obvious, first of all they are indicated by the shape of the head (with cables it is more rounded). The dog’s figure is somewhat stretched, which only emphasizes its massiveness. The adopted standards allow us to preserve the purity of this unique breed.
Basic standards of the ca-de-bou breed
When raising, there will be no superfluous help from a dog handler, even if you are confident in your abilities. After all, the baby needs not simple socialization, but competent and impeccable. [/сolor-box]
These dogs lend themselves well to training, understanding any command at a glance. But here sex also plays a role: the males are quite stubborn. Raise a real loyal dog, it’s worth it.
How to choose a puppy
If you have a desire to have such a dog, find a good kennel or a good breeder. Next, make sure of your choice. A good breeder is someone who keeps the breed clean. The slightest deviation in this case will not meet expectations: there will be a bias either in the character of the dog, or in its constitution.
Ca-de-Bo puppies are taken to the house no earlier than 1.5 or 2 months. When choosing, be sure to pay attention to the bump on the head, which indicates the size of the future dog: the larger this bump, the larger it will be when it grows up.
An important criterion is behavior. Everything here should be in moderation: activity, courage, curiosity. Watch him. A good puppy is sure to make you smile.
Price for a puppy of the Ca-de-Bo breed
It is possible to talk about the cost of a puppy only approximately, since many factors are involved in its formation: pedigree, region, class of the puppy, etc. The average price for a puppy is 50 thousand rubles. Cheaper, for 10 – 15 thousand rubles, you can buy a mestizo or a puppy with marriage. In this case, there is no guarantee of the safety of the breed qualities, although it is not a fact, it is worthwhile to thoroughly study the parents and draw conclusions. Once the goal is known, the choice is easier. A good puppy is worth any money.
